I am Anaclet Ukurikiyeyezu, a problem-solver with an interest in using data to drive tangible value. I am a data scientist with hands-on experience in data engineering, data analysis, and machine learning. My recent work involves utilizing large language models to solve real problems in tangible ways. I have a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences with Data Science specialization and a strong academic background in mathematics and physics, and this gives me a good foundation to tackle complex analytical problems. I am skilled in Python, R, , Java script, SQL and work with vector databases. From a coding perspective, I have direct experience building apps with Flask and React.js. I also work with Git and cloud platforms like AWS, Render, and Hugging Face. These complementary skills allow me to work seamlessly across teams and assist in constructing smart, data-driven solutions.

  • Rwanda Meteorological Agency (January 2023 - March 2023)
    As an intern at the Rwanda Meteorological Agency, I was actively involved in collecting and processing meteorological data to support accurate weather forecasting. My responsibilities included using various data collection tools and software to gather weather data from different sources. I processed this data to ensure its accuracy and reliability, which was crucial for preparing daily weather forecasts. Additionally, I contributed to the analysis of weather patterns and trends, providing valuable insights to support the agency's forecasting efforts. This experience honed my data analysis skills and deepened my understanding of meteorological data applications.
  • Rwanda Youth Volunteers and Community Policing (June 2020 - July 2023)
    In my role as Sector Secretary for the Rwanda Youth Volunteers and Community Policing, I was responsible for organizing, documenting, and reporting all activities within the sector. I meticulously managed information to ensure accurate and timely reporting, preparing and submitting monthly progress reports that tracked and analyzed the performance of various community initiatives. My work involved coordinating volunteer activities, facilitating communication between volunteers and the community, and ensuring that projects were executed efficiently. This role enhanced my organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage large-scale volunteer operations.
  • Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences with a Major in Data Science (August 2023 - July 2024)
    I pursued a Master of Science in Mathematical Sciences at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS Rwanda), specializing in Data Science. The curriculum was designed to provide a deep understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of data science. I studied a wide range of topics, including machine learning, big data, optimization techniques, and database management. Additionally, I gained proficiency in neural networks, data structures and algorithms, financial mathematics, actuarial science, stochastic processes, linear algebra, and numerical analysis.
  • Bachelor of Science in Physics with an Option in Atmospheric and Climate Science (November 2018 - April 2023)
    I completed my Bachelor of Science in Physics with an option in Atmospheric and Climate Science at the University of Rwanda's College of Science and Technology (UR_CST). This program provided a solid foundation in fundamental physics principles, including mathematical methods, quantum mechanics, and statistical physics.

    NEF Africa SDGs Innovation Competition (SDGs Week, 7-18 Oct 2024)
    I am deeply honored to have received the Award for Outstanding Social Inclusion Innovation for my project focused on SDG 5: Gender Equality. My Work

Hands-On Experience in Chatbot Development

I had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on chatbot development experience, where I explored key aspects of creating intelligent conversational systems. This journey included critical tasks such as dataset preparation, experimentation, and integrating cutting-edge AI techniques like Retrieve-Augmented Generation (RAG) and fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs). The mentorship and expertise of Dr. Hassan provided valuable insights, making this experience transformative for my AI journey.

A Case-Based Reasoning Approach Coupled with Machine Learning

I developed a Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) system integrated with machine learning models to improve the detection accuracy of depression symptoms and recommend preventive measures. The project required implementing kNN and SVM classifiers in Python, which significantly enhanced the system's predictive capabilities. I conducted extensive data analysis and model training to ensure the system's reliability and accuracy. This project provided me with hands-on experience in applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems and significantly improved my programming skills and understanding of advanced machine learning concepts.
